Making sure your guests are having a good time is one of the jobs of a good host. The most important job of good host when hosting your bar party is to make sure they all get home safely. It can be hard with so much going on and you are enjoying the party you put so much time into planning, but having a watchful eye will not only keep all your guest safe, but will keep you from any possible legal trouble. Here is a short list of signs to look for.

Does the person seem in good spirits? Life happens. Even though someone is on the way to a party at a bar doesn’t mean that they are having a good day. If someone shows up and seems angry or agitated keep a eye on them. Emotions can lead to some heavy drinking. With one to many drinks in them your guest may decide to take out all his or her troubles on another guest. Fights can easily break out and not only will the people evolved get hurt, they also might destroy your house or outdoor bar. If you notice someone is having a bad night and drinking to much be sure to give them a lot of attention. Offer them water and something to eat. This and talking to them will slow down their drinking and just might make their night better.

Is the person drunk before they arrive? The dangers of serving alcohol in any establishment, whether its at your home bar or business, is that the guest may have been drinking before they arrive. They may seem perfectly fine until those few drinks at your place put them over the top. Be sure to pay attention to their eyes. If they are red or their pupils are dilated, they may have been drinking. Have a conversation with them and see if they are slurring their speech. If you think they are it may be a good idea to keep a eye on their drinking.

Loud talking? One of the best ways to tell if someone is drinking to much is if they start getting loud. If you can hear them across the room talking to a guy or girl right in front of them, they may have passed their limit. No one likes a loud drunk so if this is the case try to insert yourself in the conversation, and maybe suggest he or she tone it down a bit.

When approaching anyone you think that may have had to much to drink be sure to never go in alone. Make sure you have someone you trust with you that knows the situation. This is because you could suddenly become the target of the drunk’s wrath after you try to be the good host and calm them down. Making sure everyone gets home is very important. Have a local cab service ready to call when the party winds down, and be ready to take keys if necessary. If you follow these steps everyone will arrive home safely and you will save yourself some lawyer fees down the road!
